Professional scribe and lettering artist, Cherrell Avery, works freelance from her studio in N London. She holds a first class honours degree in calligraphy, is an elected Fellow of The Society of Scribes and Illuminators and the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society and is a Full Member of Letter Exchange. Cherrell successfully completed a calligraphy Residency at the V&A , London, January to July 2012, and continues to have strong links with the museum.

She values the importance of education and uses her teaching skills to inform and inspire the general public and calligraphy students. She is a tutor on the SSI's Advanced Training Scheme and the Calligraphy and Design course at Kensington Palace. In addition, she tutors handwriting and advises on handwriting difficulties.

Her lettering is regularly exhibited, and she has work in private collections in the UK and abroad. Cherrell is co-founder of the North London Lettering Association.
